Local favorites Scott Freeman and Willard Gayheart will be joined by Swanky Kitchen Band for a special Midday Mountain Music session.
Freeman and Gayheart are well-known regional musicians who play every Thursday during Midday Mountain Music. They perform old-time tunes on the mandolin and guitar. Freeman is a traditional music teacher and lends his talents to many groups, including The McPeak Brothers, The Crowe Brothers, and The Mountain Home Bluegrass Boys. Gayheart a famed pencil artist and talented songwriter whose music is collected all over the world.
Hailing from the Cayman Islands, Swanky Kitchen Band performs kitchen dance music, the indigenous music of their homeland. The group’s music combines violin-centric folk music, which can be traced back to the Irish and Celtic fiddling traditions brought to the Cayman Islands by its earliest permanent settlers, with the driving pulse and vibrant rhythms of African music brought to the country by African slaves.
Bandmembers are Samuel Rose (fiddle), Nicholas Johnson (guitar), Paula Scott (grater/shakers), Lammie Seymour (bass), Devon Edie, (sax/harmonica), Christopher Seymour (lead guitar), KK Alese (vocals), Jeffrey Wilson (vocals), and Jared Tibbetts (drums).

Midday Mountain Music is a FREE informal music presentation featuring local and regional artists. Midday Mountain Music is held from 12-3 p.m. on the covered breezeway every day the Blue Ridge Music Center visitor center is open. Join us for a few minutes or the whole afternoon. No tickets needed.
