Sounds of the Mountains – Rissi Palmer + Baugus, Hickman, Lawrence & Falk
Rissi Palmer
Rissi Palmer’s gift lies in reaching across all musical boundaries. While she started out making her mark in country music, she is equally at home in R&B, bringing the entire spectrum of popular music to bear on what she calls “Southern Soul.” A few highlights throughout her musical career include performances at The White House, New York’s Lincoln Center, The Grand Ole Opry, and MerleFest.

Baugus, Hickman, Lawrence & Falk
Laurelyn Dossett was scheduled to kick off the show. We are sad to say that Dossett is ill and won’t be able to be there, but fortunately she put together an incredible band, and they will perform. This powerhouse band features Riley Baugus, DaShawn Hickman, Pat Lawrence, and Nick Falk.
Baugus is known for his superb banjo, guitar, and fiddle playing and resonant voice. He is a frequent collaborator with both Dossett and Hickman. Baugus sang on the soundtrack to the 2003 film Cold Mountain, and has recorded with Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, and Willie Nelson.
Hickman plays steel guitar with The Allen Boys (North Carolina’s only touring Sacred Steel band). In more recent years, he’s gone on to perform with Dossett, Baugus, singer/multi-instrumentalist Alice Gerrard, guitarist Eric Gales, and Graham Sharp of the Steep Canyon Rangers.
Lawrence plays bass with the Martha Bassett Band.
Galax-based Falk has appeared numerous times on the Music Center stage. In recent years, he has performed with Dori Freeman, Molly Tuttle, Phoebe Hunt, Oliver Wood, Carsie Blanton, The Wood Brothers, and Ric Robertson.
